Fae Myenne Ng was born in San Francisco and lived for many years in New York City. She teaches literature and creative writing at UC Berkeley and UCLA.
Her novels, BONE (PEN FAULKNER Fiction Finalist) and STEER TOWARD ROCK (American Book Award), were inspired by the effects of the Chinese Exclusion Act and the Chinese Confession Program on the Chinese American family. ORPHAN BACHELORS (Harper's, 2019) is the opening of her new book.
Her work has been supported by the Radcliffe Institute, the NEA, the Guggenheim, the D.H. Lawrence Fellowship, the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Writers' Award, and the Rome Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She received residency grants from the Lannan Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation's Bellagio Center.
